Out of the Shadows Comes Sombra

If you are player of Overwatch, speculation about Sombra’s release date, for the last few months, has been intense. Now it looks like it is going to get even more extraordinary, as Sombra has some serious game changing super powers. The countdown is on!

Between an alternate reality “game” that Blizzard was using to mess with the players (an ARG), and a series of riddles and clues trickling out tiny bits of backstory on her, fans have been trying to figure out what her abilities would be and how they would help tell her backstory.

For months, however, she stayed hidden. The only trail to follow was via computer. That just changed.

Sombra: The Stealthy Hacker

Well, now thanks to an announcement at Blizzcon by Blizzard, we know quite a lot more.

Let us see how this digital conjurer came to be… who is Sombra?

So after the big reveal, I am truly excited. I know @imaya got in touch with me practically leaping out of her skin about Sombra. We had speculated on the abilities and we were actually pretty close.

For instance, we knew that there would be stealth involved, and we figured her abilities would be about shutting down tech. We figured support or defense class. The mechanics were unknown, but I think now, we clearly see what she brings to the table, as an offensive character, no less.

What New Skills Does Sombra Bring to Overwatch?

Her skill-set is astonishing. It remains to be seen in practice and execution, but she will be rocking some people in the right hands.

She is an opportunist who can detect critically injured enemies through walls, she has a machine pistol (Uzi), that is a rapid fire hitscan with significant drop-off. The damage is 8 per round, however, Sombra can fire off 20 rounds a second and has a 60 ammo magazine.

She has her “hack” ability which can shut down a health pack for 60 seconds, or stop enemies from using their abilities. Her, lol, let me get this right, her Thermoptic Camo, makes her stealth and turns her invisible for a brief period of time. While cloaked, she gets a significant speed boost. If she attacks or takes damage, she is visible again.

Her Translocator is little device Sombra throws that she can instantly teleport to, even while it is mid-flight. And of course, who can forget Sombra’s Ultimate: the EMP, a devastating electromagnetic burst in a wide radius that destroys enemy barriers, shields, and apparently causes damage as well.

Would YOU Play Games With the Reaper?

There is one thing I know about Sombra: she will be a definite game changer. Her abilities will make for a great symbiosis to a teammate or a frustrating enemy, that is for sure. I can already see she will be trolling with counter-ults all day long, with her kit.

Now lets see how Sombra handles herself in the long form animated short cinematic.

Ha! Sombra is an absolute brat! 2 faced, blackmailing, bribing murderess… and Zarya is now in the plot as well. Everyone thought she was going to be connected to Ana, but it was the Russian by orders from Volskaya, herself.

There were some other fairly big announcements about overwatch today at Blizzcon, but this is Sombra’s moment, and I am going to let her have it.
